He can kick the ball high and within a few yards of the goal line. This allows the coverage team time to get down the field and it causes confusion for the returner on whether to bring it out or not.
Or he can kick it out of the endzone if needed.
Kickers have slumps. He had a bit of a slump in 2015 and luckily came out of it.
I think resigning him was a good move.
