For one thing, why would TruJ give up $17 mil guaranteed for one season!
But the other is that I think the Rams have greatly over valued him. He is a good corner. But he is not elite. And I suspect that the Rams have a double problem: 1) they probably want either a starting player or they want a 2nd round pick in return, and 2) clearly whatever TruJ has been demanding for a contract the Rams (notorious over payers) find unacceptable. So why would another team find it acceptable?
You seem to still be hung up on the $17 million, Rock.
But that figure is irrelevant to an acquiring team. I mean, it totally disappears for them.
They will insist on two things before they agree to a trade.
1) Tru must agree to a 4-5 year contract term which gives his new team stability at the position.
2) Tru must agree to a market based contract amount. Something in the $12-13 million per range. Again, more stability and cap control for his new team at the position.
As to what's the advantage for Tru? Well, he gets that same known financial stability, plus knowing where he will live and work for the next 4-5 years. No more UFA drama for him to deal with. But most importantly, by far, he receives financial protection in the event of a serious injury that could be catastrophic if he remains an annual UFA.
Rams, of course, save the $16.7 cap money to be used on 2 or more other players, plus receive a 2nd or a 3rd to be used for a starter in this deep draft.
Don't overthink this one. It could very well happen.
It's a win-win-win, if you ask me.
