If they pay him they are nuts. Trade him for whatever you can get. This is a last place team anyway. So lacking in offensive talent its sad. I'm really down on the whole situation right now. They are going to have to make cuts and suck it up this year. They can't mortgage the future because it's just not worth it for this year. Make some 2nd tier free agent signings, enough to make the situation palatable for this year. Get a high pick next year and start the build on the right track.
