I think the Byrd situation was more forcing a square peg in a round hole. If I'm not mistaken, they tried playing him like the Seahawks do with Earl Thomas in a cover-3 scheme and it wasn't a fit for him. They signed him and decided not to play to his strengths, which was on them and the amazing staff they have there.
