I think the term used was 'lost his fastball.' I believe most agree that he had a pretty dang good fastball at some point in his career.
It's simply that the results in the last 2-3 years are abysmal.
2016 was many things. I am a firm believer that so many things went wrong in 2016 that it's just simply not right, fair, or possible to say any of it goes to one cause. For example, and just to mention ONE example, Keenum had nearly half the sack percentage as Goff behind the same line. You hear around that one thing Goff needs to improve is the kind of pre-snap action that recognizes and responds to possible pressure---calling the right protections, being prepared to respond to a blitz immediately by dialing in the hot read immediately, that kind of thing. That was as much of a problem as anything having to do with the OL and in fact, as I said, a more veteran qb had nearly half the sack percentage. So when I say it was not just one thing with in the OL in 2016 it just flat wasn't. It was several things. Was Boudreau part of that? It's hard to sort all that out but it's certainly possible.
2015 was the most inexperienced OL I have ever seen the Rams field and it had an effect, especially with Foles collapsing after a few games. I don't put that on the position coach. I can't think of any coach who ever did well under those conditions. Not unless they had one of the rare qbs who can compensate for OL problems, like Brady or Wilson.
2014 was a long series of injuries starting in camp. Combine that with starting both Hill and then Davis, who like Foles also melted down. In the end they had a green LOT who was supposed to be playing guard, and a long list of injured starters playing hurt plus starters lost for the season plus injured back-ups. That's not the position coach. It was 2014 that caused them to draft and sign 10 linemen in 2015---Hav, Brown, Donall, Wichman, Williams, Battle, Reynolds, Kush, Arkin, and Folkerts. All 10 of those were on the team in one capacity or another. That's in addition to Barnes, Saffold, Rhaney, and Robinson. When was the last time you heard of a team adding 10 linemen in one year? They did that because they were starting over after what happened on the injury front in 2014.
That stuff, from 2014 to 2015, is just not on the position coach.
