Its been a zoo lately for me. And I doubt it slows down any. But i said I would get a mock out so here it comes. First some thought I shared in the Alyo thread i will re-post in this one:
As we head into FA, here is where I am at mentally. (insert jokes here)
1. Tru is gone.
2. Britt and Quick are gone.
3. The Rams will sign a Washington WR and I pray its Garcon, have a sinking feeling its gonna be Jackson.
4. The Rams will also add some mid range pcs to the defense in the front 7.
5. I can see the Rams signing a lower end FS.
After FA going into the draft:
1. The OT class is a hot mess and there is exactly 1 LT that can start year 1 and it isn't Robinson.
2. The Rams are going to draft a QB that fits McVay/Olsen/LaFluer
3. The Rams biggest needs going into the draft will be CB, 3-4 OLB, WR, OL and a QB
Mock 2.0 2/17/17
Round 2:
Gareon Conley - CB - Ohio St.
CB is just too deep not to take advantage and get a very good one in the 2nd round. I love his size and physicality along with his ability to locate the ball. Can get off balance on inside moves, so I'll watch his movement drills at the combine closely.
A WR would makes sense as well. Cooper Kupp would be a target. As would be one of the top 3 TEs. A rush backer makes a ton of sense as well. A little trade down would be the most ideal as the talent is so deep, adding a pick makes a ton of sense.
Round 3:
Jordon Willis - OLB - Kansas St.
The Rams desperately need a OLB opposite Quinn and Willis should fit the bill. Can play the run and pass, is relentless and finishes. Son of Bum should turn him into an animal.
Again a WR or a CB makes a ton of sense as does a FS.
Round 4:
Josh Reynolds - WR - Texas A&M
A tall, lanky WR that has excellent hands and wins 50/50 balls and will most certainly will be a redzone favorite. Watch his vertical leap and long jump at the combine. it should be very good. My only concern is his thin frame and ability to add weight.
Round 5:
John Johnson - FS - Boston College
A rangey FS that isn't afraid to stick his nose in the LoS. He can get deeked by double moves, but it isn't anything that isn't correctable.I honestly think in a normal year for FSs he would be a 3rd rounder at worst. Its just so deep the Rams should take advantage of it.
Round 6a:
Chad Kelly - QB - Ole Miss
Rams need a QB to groom behind Goff and I chose a gunslinger that needs to make better decisions withe the ball. Maybe he is McVay's type and maybe he isn't.
Round 6b:
Dare Ogunbowale - RB - Wisc.
3rd down back for the Rams that can catch and pass block.
Round 7:
Chase Roullier - OG/C - Wyoming
HC Craig Boll is good with OL going back to his days at NDSU, so its no surprise Wyoming has a few decent ones. His interior versatility is welcome on this team.
I can literally see all the complaints from posters in my head right now:
Where's the LT?
Where's all the WRs?
Where's the TE?
I think the Rams go hard at WR in FA as I said earlier. 1 from Washington and maybe a guy like Cord. Patterson or Robert Woods.
I also think I have never seen a draft or FA so bad for LTs as this year. Some very average to below average LTs are going to get overpaid or over drafted. Stay away and make Robinson/Saffold work.
TE is a very real possibility in the draft but the pick never meets value for me.
If the Rams can trade back in the 2nd Cooper Kupp might be my guy.
I was down on Conley for some reason (I think it's because of how much I like Lattimore across from him) but I have been watching more, especially last year and I was wrong. Nothing to be down on.
Willis seems high but I certainly not enough to argue the point. Plus, Chase Roullier in the 7th is dream value for me (not saying he won't be there though) so it more then evens out the value scale!
