Below are the players and positions that I have interest in.

Resigning Tru would be a high priority but if that didn't work out, I would target another CB instead. Don't think they should head into the draft with no solid CBs on the roster.

I'd let TJM walk and slide Alexander into his spot.

CB - Tru
WR - Garcon
OG - Ronald Leary / TJ Lang / Larry Warford
LOLB - Nick Perry
FS - Duran Harmon

I don't think Harmon or Larry Warford will break the bank. Spotrac has Nick Perry at $8.5M which is something I would do. Fanspeak Ultimate GM seems to value him at around $5M but I seriously doubt that's accurate.

Garcon is the hard one. He's kind of old at 31 but still effective. His age should keep his price reasonable and hopefully his connection with McVay gives us a chance.

For Tru, I wouldn't structure any contract where the majority of the money is upfront making him expendable in a year or two. I'd make year 1 low and put it all in year 5 which he will never see. He's a known commodity so the risk of structuring it this way is lessened.

Like your thought process, dz.

Just a word about your contract strategy for TruJo, though.

Backloading the money will have little appeal for him.

I think we can safely front load with a big guaranteed amount as Demoff typically prefers. Like you said, TruJo is a "safe" extension since he's already proven that he can play in this league. And the guaranteed money might just be enough to induce him to stay and play in Wade's D. Maybe even for a bit less than he could get on paper elsewhere. Guaranteed money is golden for players and their agents at contract time.

Just a thought.

I agree on the appeal of a guaranteed amount 43. But it doesn't have to be front loaded into year 1.

Demoff in the past has often had lower year one payouts and much higher in year 2 or 3.

I was just saying that because Tru is a known commodity, I would use his as the one where you can be creative and not have to worry about being able to get out of it after one or two years. Planning to be in it for three would still be ok.

Something like:

$62M / 5 years, $24M guaranteed with a year 1 cap at $6.2M.
