Fisher was also low energy in my opinion.
What new ideas is McVay promoting? What we saw in Washington, to the extent that was him, was an outgrowth of the Shanahan/Gruden WCOs. And that's not a criticism. What we saw last year in Washington wasn't innovation, it was talent plus solid execution. And that's not a criticism either. Plus he has what I like most in an offensive mind--he is not a system first guy, he adapts to what the players can do. So I like that. I have a feeling McVay will do well with Goff, but it won't be IMO because of "new ideas," it will be because he has a head for how to get something out of his players.
I can't really answer any of this really because it's all purely subjective.
And I have no idea, really, whether what looks like "energy" in a press conference means anything in terms of coaching. I mean, Wade Phillips has no energy, but he's a great coach. People can have high energy and use it to run wildly in no direction at all. I trust McVay because he looks like he is bright and has a feel for the game. I don't trust him because he's a fast talker (I don't DIStrust him for that, I just don't particularly think of that as relevant either way, myself). I would not recharge my phone by hooking it up to Bill Bellichick...he has minus energy in press conferences. So I tend not to count that as meaning much.
I think we will just always have different votes on this, and frankly it;s an old and even worn-out topic when it comes to Fisher.
On Fisher, he's gone, we will just have to live with the fact that some people see him differently. I'm fine with that.
On McVay, everything looks good so far but then I am personally reserving judgment till I see how he is when the bullets are flying. I like what I see but so far all we have, mostly, is subjective impressions. But when it comes to that my subjective impressions are positive.
Sometimes you don't want to get into a death match over things, you just want to register that maybe there are different views and that that's just fine.
