the momentum was totally going the Rams direction when Proehl scored the game tying TD.......I think Bilichick felt that if the game goes into OT with the Rams offense finally clicking that NE would be cooked in the 5th qtr....
NE passing game didn't generate much yardage that game and punted 8 times .....Brady passed for 145 yards that day
14 point underdogs, give Bilichick credit for going for the kill when most coaches would not (I too remember Madden's comment to play for OT) .. However, I do think on that final drive some tackles were made on the field that were ruled out of bounds which stopped the clock a few times giving NE more time on the gut wrenching drive...
Anyway, the Rams blew it that day..... which could ultimately cost Bruce and Holt enshrinement in the HOF........
and Ricky Proehl, burned twice with game tying TDs in the SB (with the Rams and Carolina) vs NE only to lose to Vinateri's foot..
