When I think about it, the pats didn't choose who they played. They played the team they were matched up against. It's not their fault they played a Falcons team who evidently wilt at the least bit of pressure.
I asked it in an earlier post is it still risk when there is almost nothing to gain? I mean even if the pass is completed is there anything really gained... had two chances and didn't learn from the previous mistake just a few minutes before. Goal is to win. Kick the field goal and the game likely ends 31 to 9 and its a blowout and people start suggesting Brady retire.
I hate it when the inexplicable happens because I want to understand why. A string of bizarre coaching mistakes doesn't really add up (including making the same mistake twice) so I naturally wonder what a plausible explanation could be. But I don't have any that I'm comfortable with. So meltdown it is. And kudos to the Pats for taking advantage of the perfect storm.
