They averaged 5.8 YPC in the game and even 3.9 YPC removing the long of 37. Set up the easy FG, make NE use it's timeouts and take your trophy and head home..... But no...

Who was out of the game injured by that point.

Tevin runs on 1st down and loses a yard.

And what look were the Pats giving on defense? Does anyone EVER take that into account? It never appears so.

Regardless of what play is called, execution is always the key. Run or pass.

NE’s look shouldn’t have mattered. Atlanta should have run the ball three times. Even assuming poor execution and no gain on all three runs, this is how the series should have looked.

1-10-NE 22 (4:40) D.Freeman left end to NE 23 for -1 yards (D.McCourty)

2-11-NE 23 (3:56) (Run) Assume no gain.
Timeout #1 by NE at 03:50.

3-11-NE 23 (3:50) (Run) Assume no gain.
(***NE would have to choose here b/t calling a timeout and letting the clock run. Scenario #1 is if they choose to let the clock run.)

4-11-NE 23 (3:06) FG

***Scenario 2 --- If NE does call the 2nd timeout, that FG would be around 3:44 left on the clock but… you’d likely have an 11 point lead and only 1 timeout left for NE.

Instead, NE gets the ball with 3:44 left at their 45 and only an 8 point lead. Inexcusable! We say Ryan failed (and he did) but better coaching doesn’t put him in that situation.

And if they do what they've done all year and execute the play calls, its something else.

I vehemently disagree with you that it shouldn't matter about defensive looks.

IF Mike Martz had taken advantage of the Pats defensive looks, he would have won a SB

But that aside, I don't believe in second guessing play calls. Too easy.

Laram
