Hated him when he played. Only came to realize his greatness over the passage of time since.
He is one of the few quarterbacks, one of the very, very few, who was completely adaptable to era. He could have played in the 40s and been successful. He could have played in the 50s and been successful. He would have flourished in the 90s and 2000s.
Is there any doubt he could have accomplished what Montana did in that San Francisco offense? What Brady is doing today?
And on top of everything else ... he was a leader of men. Real deal stuff. Those Cowboys' teams believed in him every time they took the field. More than they ever believed in the man in the hat.
Even though he played for one of the most over-hyped franchises in the history of professional team sports, Staubach remains one of the most underrated quarterbacks ... football players ... of all-time.
