Unfair, even. To each their own, I guess. I'm certainly not going to change your mind or even try.
But I will say that true gamesmanship is earned in playoff football.
Warner was 9-4 in the playoffs.
Passed for 4,000 yards and thirty-one touchdowns in those games.
Quarterback rating of 102.8.
Those are Hall of Fame numbers.
Period.
Could have won three Super Bowls.
And, yeah ... he could have lost all three, also.
The point is, though, when the money was on the line ... Warner had his three Super Bowl teams in the position to win each game. He needed an all-time great stop by Mke Jones in the first one - and got it. He needed the Rams defense to make a stop on the Patriots' last drive in the second. Didn't happen. He needed the Cardinals to keep the Steelers out of the end zone when they were 87 yards away with under two minutes to play. Didn't happen. Version 2.0.
Warner was not a "game-manager" with any of those teams.
He was not a second banana or role player or something along those lines.
He was man in the middle of each one. He was the straw that stirred the drink. He was the hub of those wheels.
Again ... imo.
