I have always viewed HOG inductees as someone who were game changers, someone who had longevity, and someone who did it over their time in the NFL. Jason Taylor did none of these in my opinion. I have long believed that while Kurt was good, the length of his career was too short. There is no question about the heights he achieved in St. Louis but he was benched in NY and a HOFer should not have been sent to the bench as a backup in the middle of his career. Kurt shouldn't be there in my opinion.
I disagree, but feel the same about Bettis. If he wasn't a Steeler, there's no way he'd be in. That's the problem with longevity, it cuts both ways. Just because a guy played forever doesn't mean he was a game changer or something really special.
Which I would take those two things in cases like Namath, Sayers, Earl Campbell, Terrell Davis and Kurt Warner. None could sustain the heights of success but those heights were something special and part of the fabric of the NFL.
