Peete has coached much more than just last year with the rams with a fair amount of success. I don't see any obvious connection between Mcvay and peete so I suspect he checked around the league as well as with gurly and found he has a good reputation as a coach. He may have coached with kromer in Chicago.
Kromer & Peete were in Chicago at the same time. From 2013-4, Kromer was the OC and Peete was the RB coach.
