Cousins is playing very good right now but how much of it was the coaching staff. Sometimes, it goes south for a player if they lose their coach.
See Marc Bulger. He was a 90% QB rating QB year after year and winning 2/3 of this games. After Martz left, Bulger hung on for a season but bad habits crept into his game, bad footwork, bad reads, not hanging in the pocket, and he wasn't the same player and rarely won. In that 2006 seasons, he made a living on dumping the ball off to Steven Jackson on screens and once teams started to take that away, his regression was clear.
So, there is no guarantee he will play well next year for the Redskins. Given that, the Redskins would have to find somebody to replace him as good or better. I don't know how they would do that.
