with a great resume and skins on the wall?
Great minds generally come off that way.
Mike Martz was the same way.
You gotta be confident and comfortable in your own skin to deal with those types.
That speaks to his overall ability to connect with people.
There are many great minds who don't come off that way.
Many leaders have great minds but are also good at communicating, connecting with people, and not rubbing people the wrong way.
That particular trait can cause problems to the point where people may not want to work with you or follow you.
Mike Martz's career has been hurt because of this.
Thats a good post dz but it wasn't Martz arrogance that hurt him. He was miserable as a HC and had conflict with others.
His arrogance is what made him great as a play caller.
And arrogance is subjective.
You know like treasure and trash.
Ok, I'll give you Martz. Even though I think arrogance can be at the root of why he's had so much conflict.
But agree that it made him a great play caller.
However here, I think the biggest quality teams are looking for is a leader.
Someone who turns you off in an interview with their arrogance
should be looked at suspiciously in their ability to connect and ultimately lead people.
That said, it is subjective. Maybe one team hates it and another team sees it as confidence and strength.
