Well, not really. I can see why you were drawing a parallel but if it isn't actually a parallel, should the point stand? Because if your statement was accurate, it would have been "the last time the Rams hired an assistant from the Redskins" and it loses a lot of impact.
I would love it if McVay was as successful as Martz was but Mike was coming in as a first time OC and bringing the QB he was familiar with and getting Marshall Faulk and Isaac Bruce and not having to run the whole team.
McVay is inheriting Goff, who the book is still out on and who McVay has said he already has to work on his mechanics(release point). More importantly, McVay is going to have a whole team to look after. Not as much as he could since Phillips will likely take a LOT of the load off on defense but still, if McVay was just going to be an OC, he would be in a more similar boat to what Martz was.
And, aside from all of that, the last time the Rams hired an OC from the Redskins was in 2008 when they brought Al Saunders back.
