I think your missing the point. The offense was top 10 despite having no running game. It wasn't the play calling. It was the players.
And the fact that he got that production out of a qb who may be average speaks volumes to coaching and play calling.

McVay's play calling has left a lot be desired. If your offense is Top 10 in average yards/carry, your overall rushing offense should rank in the Top 20 and Washington's did not.
Also, he's hanging his resume on the success of Kirk Cousins....a quarterback his own team doesn't even know if he's worth his asking price.
