that was biggest offender. along with fails for receivers Mardy Gilyard, Austin Pettis, and Greg Salas with premium picks.
but no one matches the Linny era for busts....whoever else was helping him . . . .
Ambiguous in all this is Armey.
Armey really only had good years when with Vermeil, which suggests that was really mostly Vermeil.
But that's hard to say. Martz shut Armey out after 2000...Armey even complained about that in public.
He apparently had more input with Linehan/Zygmunt. But that's not a plus.
Devaney comes aboard in 2008 but it really wasn't his draft in 2008. For example, according to Softli, who was there and saw it happen, BD didn't want Avery and they picked him over his objections.
I would say that BD picks were kind of average overall though tainted by Smith. There are several still on the team (though they all had bad years--Sims, Kendricks, Quinn, Saffold. Plus Barnes and Reynolds who of course were not draft picks.) Bradford played pretty well this year considering they had no running game and a bad OL, so I would count Bradford in his favor...it wasn't Devaney who traded Bradford because of knee injuries.
You're right though. Mostly the Linehan/Zygmunt years are about as bad as it gets. There;s really only Long, out of 26 picks, including 11 fairly high to high 1st-3rd rounders.
