Yeah, our O has lagged under Fisher. But that's not the only reason he had to go.
A country club culture had set in.
Penalties
Drops
Unfocused players
Poorly run routes
Undeveloped promising rookies
Questionable personnel decisions
Questionable game time decisions
Skipping allowed minicamps
Minimizing padded practices
Acceptance of incompetence from some asst coaches
And on and on and on...
This "culture", for lack of a better word, had permeated the entire team. To the point that many had seemingly subconsciously accepted losing.
So, clearly, Fisher had to go. Probably shoulda been 2 years sooner, but better late than never.
If GW became collateral damage, so be it. It's not as if GW didn't have a few shortcomings of his own and was a "must have", anyway.
I hope Fassel sticks around. But if he doesn't, someone else will be hired to take his place. Hekker and GZ aren't going anywhere, and there's no reason to think we can't maintain strong coverage units under the direction of a new ST and HC.
So yeah, there will be some adjustments. But our O should take some truly giant steps forward in the bargain. I have zero doubt of that.
Overall, this will be a far more effective team from QB to the 53rd player on the roster. 'Bout time, too.[/quote
Yep, the culture of the team was its worst enemy.
