So many facets of success or disaster come from other components in this game, however Todd's season is now a complete picture of disaster.
To me, if there's not a revealed backstory of some merit to associate with his troubling sophomore season, the 2017 campaign has already started to take some shape.
If I'm in that draft war room, I am drafting a running back. I am a huge Cunningham fan. I think that Malcolm Brown has some real upside. The former can make plus yards without help. The latter has a keen ability to run to daylight, but appears to need a bit of help upfront. The balance of what's on the roster may or may not have promise.
Of course, the offensive line has serious flaws, but I am not thrilled with the burst, fire, and push out of the legs of Todd. I may be wrong. For sure, I hope I am wrong. But the repeated performances, to me, are an indication that we need a youngster that possesses one of two attributes.
A. Is faster than anyone else out there. Think Wendell Tyler
B. Is angrier, and stronger than anyone out there. Think Earl Campbell
yes, I know Campbell was an early pick, but Tyler was 3rd rounder. the selection area aside, I do think that this roster has to have one of the two types coming off the bench.
We have lots of needs, as always, around the roster; I have no issue of using a midround pick for a success story waiting to happen. It may be that we'll solve some issues with free agency.
Todd's wretched season is over. He can't be absolved of the entire book of atrocities that befell the offensive unit this season. Worse, in my eye, he was part of the problem and they didn't have the right horses and guts to yank and replace when it was obvious that he wasn't the same player of 2015
