With inconsistent play of Greg Robinson, Rams struggling to find solution at left tackle
By RICH HAMMOND / STAFF WRITER
“It kind of caught me off guard,” Robinson said after Tuesday’s practice at Cal Lutheran. “I don’t really know what to expect, week in and week out. It was a decision they made as a staff, and I just took it on the chest and I’ll try my best to be positive about it.”
How could it have caught him off guard? Does he have no self-awareness?
Not sure if he does.
I recall listening to the pre-game show prior to the New Orleans game when he was deactivated the first time. D'Marco Farr was on as a guest and while he expressed surprise that Robinson was deactivated (he didn't think that was a good idea knowing Saffold's injury history), he wasn't surprised that he'd be benched.
Farr explained that the coaches had repeatedly called out Robinson (both in private and in unit meetings) leading up to that game for repeated mental lapses that resulted in missed assignments and penalties. I got the sense that Farr had intel directly from the coaches and/or other players about this. So, although his deactivations may have been a surprise to Robinson, I don't believe that his teammates were all that shocked.
