A duplicitous statement, which is what that was, does NOT fall under the definition of straightforward.
If you mean it was a statement that made it easy to spot how he was misleading, which means he was avoiding or obfuscating rather than aiding understanding, okay.
When Fisher says "I was told there wasn't going to be any issues" you have no idea what that was in response to. You're making a prodigious leap here in your assertion of a duplicitous statement.
He could have informed Demoff and Snead, that our d-backs Jenks, Tru and McCleod" or priorities and make sure that you get them signed.
In which Demoff and Snead responded...there will be no issues.
That is not only a reasonable assumption but most likely more accurate than your interpretation, especially since it was reported early in the season that they considered them their main priority.
