But .. if Petersen is interested, Stan should give him a blank check.
I first became aware of Petersen in the early 2000s after Dirk Koetter left Boise State and Dan Hawkins took over. Hawkins and Mike Riley were candidates for the Oregon State job in 2003, and I had a good friend with a close relative on the Boise State team. The word among them all was that they weren't overly concerned about Hawkins leaving, Chris Petersen was the diamond. He was the guy they did not want to lose.
Fast forward 15 years and that has proven to be pretty darn accurate. Toward the end of his Boise State tenure I saw some chinks in the armor that hadn't been evident previously, and questioned if he was the coach I thought he was. So he goes to Washington and in no time has that team in the playoff.
He's the real deal. In addition to his on field success, he seems to be a decent guy that treats people with respect, values time with his family and in general, carries himself well. But that is also why he may not be the right fit. If it won't satisfy him personally then it's all a moot point.
If he's at a point in life where he's considering the NFL, there's an awful lot to like about the Rams job. I'd love to see it.
