Bonsignore: It can't get any worse for Rams, can it?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – It started with a blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints, followed by a public spat with one of the best players in franchise history, and ended with word leaking of a secret deal in place that may or may not mean Jeff Fisher returns to the sideline next year and a blowout loss to the New England Patriots.

It was, quite honestly, the worst week in the history of these new Los Angeles Rams and a harsh reminder of the large and transparent fishbowl in which they now operate.

The good news is, it probably can’t get any worse.

Right?

Right???

Here are some observations from the Rams’ Hell Week and Sunday’s 26-10 loss to the Patriots.

WELL, AT LEAST WE KNOW NOW
For months now, there were strong indications the Rams had agreed to new contract extensions for Fisher and General Manager Les Snead. And for months, the Rams indicated no decision had been made on either contract.

As we now know, that was only partially accurate.

Turns out Fisher and Snead signed two-year extensions some time last offseason. The Rams never acknowledged it, seemingly out of desire to figure out the right time to tell their fans a coach and GM who have overseen four consecutive losing seasons had been rewarded with new deals.

The Rams were coming from a decent and hopeful place, wanting to thank Fisher and Snead for their work in overturning the morbid roster they inherited in 2012 and for holding the team together during the relocation process from St. Louis.

But they also believed 2016 would be the season the Rams finally turned things around, confident the roster Fisher and Snead built was stout enough to climb out of their customary 7-9 doldrums into a potential playoff contender.
