and all the players, staff and schemes that were tried and how they were gone by 2012?!
Fisher builds a roster but has not gotten the wins. Fire him and hire someone new....okay.
Just don't be so sure the new HC will be lights out as winning in the NFL is hard....and most fail or are avg.
Sorry, but I'm not even with Harbough
(who's offense was conservative like ours & PeteCarroll too and based on defense & STs) I think. Stanford's David Shaw runs the same type of offense too as we try to do....so I don't know.
I just wanna win. I have no idea how we do that. Fisher has tried.....Spags tried....Linehan tried....seriously, it goes back for decades sans the glory years of the GSOT when lightening struck. There is no ONE way to success....and it's a real challenge to find and keep players & coaches who achieve for more than 2-3 yrs. What happened to the HCs like Arians...or Rivera...McCarthy, etc who've had success but now aren't so hot. Will/should they be fired?
The Cowboys were 4-12 last year. When to hold em -when to fold em?! I dunno.
I DO know that everyone on every team wants to win and is trying their best in spite of whatever their situation. Hue Jax finally got his shot and and has a #2 picked QB and can't make it work? Forget the injuries to RGIII...that's just an excuse. Rivera has a QB MVP...so, does Arians...and they are not doin so hot. Fire them?! I dunno.
I do know this...CONTINUITY matters for a small group of people who work together in any field...any job. Imagine swapping out CEOs and fellow workers at yer job...how would that affect the workplace and yer ability to work as a team?! I suspect it'd be quite
challenging and once you got a system down and it working...the CEO changes...and brings in a new group of workers and you restart again.
If one looks over the NFL and see the successful teams year in year out(sans a red-herring season here or there)...you see that they have a talented QB, and a solid-smart HC...and CONTINUITY in running the same systems sometimes for a decade or more.
Stability & continuity help....alot !
Now, Fisher has had 5yrs and we are not winning...but it's not that B&W to me anyway....
I have no personal attachment to Fisher or Spags
(yep, I wanted him to have more time too).
However, I see Fisher very conservative on offense - yet using the same system that Harbough, Carroll, DavidShaw espouse...
just not succeeding at it like they did. Personally, to me, Fisher's biggest mistake was not hiring a vet OC/experienced play-caller
tho he DID reach out to some to interview. Fisher instead went to new OCs after Schotty....which I didn't like
but was hopeful. I think Fisher could get away with it on DEFENSE and STs cuz that's Fisher's forte and he could do well on his own like Martz with an offense. BUT...Fisher ISN'T as agressive on offense as he is on defense and STs...in general. Sometimes our offense comes out blazing and we do well. Boras HAS called some good halfs and even full games...but not enough of them. CLEARLY!!
I want to keep GW and all our staff on defense & STs....but hire a vet OC(Turner?) to oversee and rebuild our offense.
Also, if Fisher loses the players and they do NOT play hard in losing efforts( I doubt they win more than 1 or 2 more games this year)...then Fisher has to go. I'd be fine with GW becoming HC and handing the keys of the offense to a vet OC with a clear identity and the experience to pull it off. I think Norv Turner would be the guy, frankly. I'd try that experiment for a year or two with Fisher and everyone else on the staff in place. If we see no difference, okay tear down and rebuild for the new HC in 2018 or 2019.
ps
I still cannot get over the fact that the Steelers have only had 3 HCs in 40yrs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
