Rams need a qb.
If Goff works out, given what they have now (defense, special teams, enough elements on offense) they will win. No matter who the coach is.
If Goff doesn't work out, then, they won't win as much. No matter who the coach is.

Well zn... you say no matter who the coach is they will win if Goff works out because of the Rams special teams and defense combined with enough elements on offense..
You also say if Goff doesn't work out it, that it doesn't matter who the coach is they will essentially lose...
I used to have that same type of thinking believing JG would be such a special player that in spite of the coaching staff, he would elevate the offense and take the league by storm sooner than later.
I have a different view of this now because like those that have pointed out before the draft, he needs the best possible coaching to have a chance at being a quality NFL quarterback.
We can't be so confident to say, if this and if that the player will get the team wins because he works out etc..... Bottom line... Goff needs the best coaching possible at the pro level and it does matter who the coach or coaches are to get the best results out of his career.
As you already know JG is a 22 year old raw shotgun spread formation system college quarterback that needs the best possible professional quarterback coaching he can get. After watching his first game vs the Dolphins I have no expectations for him to do anything special at New Orleans.
Anyway like all of us I hope he exceeds expectations against the Saints but under this current coaching staff, I have no idea how he will perform these next two games on the road.
A week from Sunday at New England will be much more telling for me how far he's come along.
I don't think it's because he's special...I don't know yet whether he is. I mean I think he has some potential for that, but either way that wasn't what I was talking about.
But the Rams have NO qb and having a qb will matter. That's all I was saying. If Goff is just good enough to be a decent starting caliber qb, that's already an advance over what they have mostly had.
YOu know how many games from 2012 on where the Rams played with a genuine starting caliber qb? So far I count Goff as that, so that's 1. I give Foles 4 games counting as that before he melts down, gets benched, and asks to be cut. Then Bradford had 23. So that's 28 out of 74, which is 37.8% of the time.
In fact, it's 7 different qbs in 5 years.
Now I dont know about you but I can't think of many teams that started #2, back-up caliber qbs the majority of the time, and did well.
So yes I think having A starting caliber qb makes that much of a difference.
