Use to be that GMs were less focused on; Nowadays GMs seem to be tied to the hip of the headcoach
The days of a GM having overarching rule of the fiefdom of player acquisition, and retention are eroded. Often cited as a right hand man to an owner, or having a lot of room to make long term decisions, and draft? Now, they are as much tied to the success or failures of a franchise as a coach, especially when a new coach often comes replete with his own GM.
Now the cap guys have their own autonomous relations with the owner, coaches, and GMs.
That job seems to have more insulation against the win loss column, and a far longer term approach to the future of the roster.
I'd like to see them keep Les Snead; I don't know that will happen.
What I do believe is that Kevin Demoff is far more involved with the planning and future of the new stadium than just being a financial wizard.
