Atlantic Ram
then you would think it would make it easier on the QB...
And for several games it was.
Look, the Rams have had basically 4 out of 5 close games since Tampa. One-score games. The defense has been a big part of that but not the only part.
If the Rams could not pass, they would never have been close in those games in the first place. And that's basically passing without running. And in fact if you look at the numbers for just those games, they are passing better than they have in years. In fact in that stretch they were better at converting 3rd downs than they have been for far more than a decade.
The problem? Why more losses than wins?
Because Keenum is not the kind of qb you put an entire offense on. He has not always come through in comeback/close game situations.
But then he was not supposed to be in that position. They were supposed to be a running team with a strong defense, and you can win with him under those conditions.
Back to the other side of the coin though. Just in terms of sheer passing, leaving out them getting stalled more often than not in comeback situations, they actually are doing fairly well. Surprisingly so. (This gets hidden if you use only season avg. stats. Those include the 1st 2 games, and they changed after the first 2 games. You get a much better, more accurate picture if you just look at the numbers for the last SIX games. This becomes even more starkly obvious when you compare the last 6 games to the 1st 2 games.)
How many qbs, though, are there where you can put the whole offense on him and say, now go win? I think it's a handful. People's lists might differ but no one's will be long.
And, CK ain't one of them.
