I'm simply stating that I don't think this year mattered one way or the other. 6 wins or 10 wins or make the playoffs or whatever wasn't the focus, this year isn't about making the playoffs now/win now. It's become pretty clear I'd say. I'm not distorting anything to fit an agenda. I'm simply describing what I see, and what I think, based on what this team and it's FO/HC/GM are saying and doing. And the history too of course.
I'm not sure why you find it hard to believe that this year isn't all that important to them when we KNOW last year wasn't important, Demoff said the focus was the move and the new stadium. He was glad they lost and got eliminated from the playoffs so they could focus on their plan. Would that focus change just a few short months after the move? They are concentrating, in my opinion, on two years from now. That is the horizon they have their eyes on and whatever happens on the field this year isn't critical, it just isn't meaningful. Now to US as fans yeah of course it is, but not to Kroenke/Demoff. I'm not saying they don't want to win, I'm saying win or lose isn't the "thing" right now, that's just not on their mind and they aren't focused on that. Their efforts are on other things and will be for some time now. I'd bet money that if you put a gun to SK's head and told him to name the score of each of the games so far or you would shoot, there is a decent chance you'd be pulling the trigger.
Finally..........what makes you still think Goff was "about this year"? Maybe you could have thought that two months ago, but how can you now? Without a doubt he is on the McNair plan but possibly with some acceleration. Right now we are clear that Goff wasn't about this year.
Anyway, there seems to be a nickname for Fisher and Snead.....Snisher. I think we need to come up with one for Kroenke and Demoff. Get to work on that willya!
It's entirely possible for the Ram brain trust to have focused on both the short and long term simultaneously last February, Les.
In fact, I'm sure that that was exactly what they did.
I think we agree that they were thinking long term in the Goff decision. No brainer.
But this isn't an either/or thing.
I think that they were also thinking that Goff would provide short term ('16 season) benefits, too. So much so that they were willing to part with 6 premium picks over 2 drafts to take him.
A sane FO doesn't do that and not expect tangible results in the first season.
Not a HC and "GM" in their final contract year.
Not an owner moving his team and wanting to see excited new fans for his $2.2 billion investment.
Nope. As George Allen famously said, "The future is now". The Rams expected Goff benefits both now and in the future. They wanted it both ways to inaugurate their first season in LA.
