Or a new director. Maybe all the Boras changes have screwed up Austin and the oline.
Well in the spirit of friendly banter...
not sure how changing yet again fixes things if the problem was change.
Either way I have no problem whatsoever with the philosophy. To me this is all execution.
I don't think they screwed up Austin. They actually added to his game to an extent. The problem is assuming you can use him more as a pure receiver. He's not a pure receiver. What we're seeing IMO is about as much as you can get from him using him that way.
Last year he had as many runs as catches. Plus he was an effective decoy. That's how you use Austin, I think.
BUT he could be an even more effective version of that--ie. of what he was last year---if they also retained the bits here and there they added to his game.
So I would use Austin the 2015 way, just adding a few of the 2016 tweaks to the mix. He did improve in some specific ways, ie. in the routes he can run effectively. It;s just that OVERALL he's just simply not a pure receiver.
So I guess my view is, it's a mixed bag. Some gains, but not enough to warrant using him in more of a pure receiver role; better IMO to use him they way they did last year while adding some of the new stuff to THAT mix.
