mannion went from a passer rating of a 67 in 2015 to 94 in 2016 but yeah...no development.
You could SEE the difference.
Different qb in 2016. Not the same as 2015. And IMO he wasn't that bad in 2015.
...
I thought about this when they made the trade. And this past summer Mannion confirmed it. Why didn't the coaches know what they had already?
Some feel the coaches are not playing Mannion because he will play so well that it will make the trade for Goff look totally stupid.
Grits
Personally, I think having 3 qbs is a bonus. (Though all I know about Mannion is that he looked good in the preseason. That in itself puts a wrench in the "can't develop qbs" machine.)
I really don't see it the way you do. If Mannion plays and plays well, AND Goff works out, you can trade Mannion. That's win/win.
I don't think there;s a coach on the face of the planet who would be embarassed by developing 2 qbs.
And of course until he got into the pre-season and performed there would be not real way to know how much Mannion had developed. If he HADN'T developled and they DIDN'T take a qb they would (rightfully) look like idiots.
If it's true it's a good problem to have and a credit to the coaches.
