ZN makes a good point as usual. It all depends on the temperament of the individual. I'm a thinker, and I learn more quickly by observation and emulation than by trial under fire. But, once I learn something, I have it down, and I can adapt very quickly to changes. In high school, I was often behind my classmates at mid- term, but by the end I was usually in the top 5%, having thoroughly mastered whatever subject I was studying.
It was one of my teachers who pointed that out to me, and it completely changed my life. I gained so much confidence, and my grades soared. Before that, I had always felt kind of dumb. From that time, I never looked back and I ended up with a college education.
