If I had to guess-and it would be a guess-I would say Fisher wanted to use most of the choices to do what was necessary to free up Gurley-meaning the O line. He knew that there were plenty of good qbs in the draft that could be taken with any of the choices at there respective slots. That would not shock me in the least. But he is a good soldier if nothing else and that is something we will never know unless one's first name is Keyshawn.
I think it's possible to tell when Fisher is really invested in a particular player. Goff meets all those criteria. I've never seen anything that leads me to believe otherwise.
I would like to say "you never know though," because that sounds fair, but I don't---because that means you add credibility to any doggone conspiracy rumor people like to come up with.
So I hold out for what my instincts tell me. Listening to Fisher from draft day forward to the present, it is absolutely clear Goff is his guy. And this is a coach who DID have a qb forced on him in Tenn. (V.Young). The way Fisher has always spoken about Goff contrasts very clearly with how he spoke about V.Young.
