have no dog in the fight with getting Goff on the field
reality is that every game he doesn't take a snap is a learning experience. assured that the kid will have plenty of opportunities.
however, it is worth noting that they selected so many ballhandlers with what little ammunition that had left, and haven't found a way to use them in offensive snaps.
the note on just how many times they got Mike Thomas on the field, along with my own, in person accounts, make me wince. It's not even a decent decoy if you don't take the ball that way some.
add on the kid Higbee. sure, I'd like to see him get the ball, but from his field work, the kid is lost.
and the promise of Spruce kind of came and went. monster hands in the preseason, but deactivated now.
I guess, on the Brightside that Brian Quick has performed so well. And a good portion of the guys they brought in had to be the insurance clause on Brian regaining his toolset. But it is still annoying to me that they haven't found a way to sling the ball at Thomas.
Cooper? well he had an issue out there on a play, iirc. Haven't really seen him much since. Can't fault the coaches for being heavy handed with rookies who fail to play as coached, make silly plays, or have lapses that can't be ignored.
For me the one rookie that I would have liked to have seen targeted would have been Higbee, as he was active. But as I watch him, it's not like he's deployed in a fashion that makes him a primary. This could easily be a draftable spot come spring.
The other rookie, and this is obvious, that I'd like to see some of is Nelson Spruce. He isn't going to burn anyone long, but with the number of 3rd and 1 plays that have come and gone; it would have been wise to been able to line him up.
For the most part, pointing the finger at late round picks that haven't made strides isn't going to sink the ship. But with so many selected and to not reap a return; it's reasonable condemnation.
