Since he was drafted.
Whether it was a good idea to pay him or not, that's 8 TDs (including the ones called back) per year so far.
I mean, touchdowns are still a good thing, yeah?
If we confine our discussion to '16, X, the Tavon numbers just don't impress.
And this is the first year of his extended contract.
I think using career stats for comparison of current production can be misleading, at least at times.
For example, Gurley had a helluva '15 season, but '16 has been a disappointment. A "that was then and this is now" kinda thing. Just sayin'.
Most people don't really subscribe to the "that was then and this is now" thing, including you. If people did, where are all of the "Gurley is a bust" posts? They don't exist. At most we've seen some moderate concern expressed. When there is sufficient discontent for a player, people start threads about it. And yet I haven't seen one thread from you or anyone else discussing whether Gurley was worth the 10th pick or is a bust.
Which means that Gurley is being given a pass
based on what he did last year. Because frankly, this year he sucks. In the name of consistency, if we're going to give a pass to one player based on past production we should do it for all of them.
So yeah, I disagree with the notion of confining our discussion to this year. We can't just pick and choose how to analyze data based upon what point we want to make.
They specifically stated they paid Austin that contract because of his past TD production and expectations of even more in the future. Horrible chemistry with Keenum seems a pretty decent explanation for the lack of production this year for the time being. If it continues, then maybe we'll see that theory doesn't hold water.
