He was only about5-9, 185 as I recall, and had some return skills also .

Irv Cross was a solid broadcaster on the NFL today on CBS back in the Brent Musburger Jimmy the Greek Days,
He was the first black face that. I remember in national sports programming.
Before Arthur Ashe or the Gumble brothers so I consider him a groundbreaker. Even without having a lead role he was part of the crew on CBS with Phyllis George and later Jayne Kennedy and of course Bret as lead.
