[Seattle is a better defense but Buffalo had, it seems, the better plan.

Seattle lost because of their inept offense. Seattle had the better defense and the better plan because they only gave up 9 points. It’s not their defenses fault that the offense couldn’t score.
Either way what watching film of that game plus the next two demonstrated to an alert coach was that in fact you do have to worry about the Rams passing game making plays. That ignoring that can be costly. Certainly it is the case that the Rams defense did a number on Seattle, but even with that, the Rams do not get a chance to score against Seattle unless they threw their way to those chances.
Buffalo, I submit, did a better job and had the better plan because they won.
That however is deep into judgment call territory.
What is true is that anyone watching film of the Rams last 3 games would know that selling out against the run invites big passing plays. Which of course are clearly there...they constitute the major if not only offensive highlights from those games. They include both long passes with a couple of hits, and then medium and deep medium passes that turned into big plays with yards after the catch. They even include some scary incompletions, like the big near hit to Kendricks in the Tampa game where he very nearly catches it in bounds, and the pass interference, which as you know I count as one of the benefits of throwing longer passes.
