Aaron Donald is a luxury. We were a very similar defense before Donald, with Langford at DT. Yes, he's a beast, but DT is a way less impactfull position to a team than a top 5 WR.
Yes, they have to double team Donald, so there is a domino effect if he's gone, but it's a no brainer for me.
The defense is not similiar at all. Back then you had spot pluggers instead of athletes at lb. Chris Long was one of the leagues top pressure defensive ends. Quinn was healthy and one of the top defenders in football and a completely different style of defense being played.
Donald allows the team to do different things. To funnel players to different spots on the field. To play faster with different types of linebackers, safeties and less expensive players in the DL rotation.
