I had a long dialog with Waldman yesterday. A ton of back and forth tweets on Goff, Tannehill, and some other rookie QBs. You can go on Twitter and check his tweets.
One interesting point that he made was that the Rams should have known Goff would take longer all things considered. And that now its too late to change things for him because of the impact on everyone else.

Waldman
To be blunt. If Goff isn't ready yet, it would be dumb to put him on the field and change everything for him. Also it's dumb if they are for real concerned about him because they should have known he'd take longer to learn their system based on what he was doing at Cal vs. LA.
He also said it was dumb of Fisher to say the plan was for Goff to play in SF in the opener. The Rams should have known better based on what they were asking him to learn. IDK, maybe Fisher got swept away in the draft fever and all the PR or maybe he was just BSing everyone. But it was totally unrealistic if they weren't going to simplify things for Goff. Actually, I think the right word is dumb.
Keep in mind where Waldman is coming from with young QBs. He thinks they ALL should sit a year. If you read his RSP, he is always talking about these kid QBs not seeing the field for at least a year. He has no problem with Goff not playing this year, he endorses it. He has no criticism for Fisher and his coaching staff in their handling of Goff. He says he's not close enough to see what they are doing and he won't play psych 101 with reading into media coverage of body language and leadership opinions.
I am sticking to my theory that Goff will get on the field if/when Keenum loses 2 straight games. I go back to what Chris Speilman said last week. He canvassed NFL execs and coaches and found that after 3 or 4 games rookie QBs are settled in enough to play. Goff certainly won't have all the "Chinese" down, but by the time he plays he may have enough down to allow him to perform at least to Keenum's level.
