I was wrong to think that Jared Goff was the most pro ready of the 2016 rookie quarterback class. I underestimated the difficulty of the transition from Cal’s Air Raid offense to the Rams’ West Coast system. But I don’t think this is a big deal if you’re focused on the true North of the compass for what matters most for a young quarterback:
Jared Goff is learning an entirely new system. Will Hewlett–a quarterback coach and consultant to high school, college and professional passers–says the transition from the Air Raid system at Cal to a West Coast system with the Rams is like learning Chinese.
I was wrong promoting him as being a rare special quarterback.. What I mean is, I believed even with the Bear Raid system and a Jeff Fisher offensive staff, he would still win the starting job on pure talent, work ethic and misc intangibles. The 2016 Rams were the wrong team to draft JG.. At least for those that were as sure as I was he would be the starting quarterback from day one in 2016.
I'm still glad he was the choice and I haven't lost faith in how his career will unfold but it pains me that the Fisher and his offensive staff never made the commitment to manipulate/change and simplify/cater the offense to best fit his skill set from the very onset of him being selected #1 overall.
By Fisher and Boras not changing the offense from day one to accommodate his learning curve, Carson Wentz was always going to be the better fit as many had stated. I just honestly thought that Fisher and Boras were all in and would try at all costs to adjust the scheme to best fit him.. I was naive to believe this...
Some will say no matter what team drafted JG he would still be sitting the pine for most or all of 2016 (I disagree with those that feel that way) but everyone is entitled to their opinions and I respect that. Still hoping JG starts some games this season but for now I've excepted it for what it is..
