Pinged on tape reviews

I really do agree on both counts

would hope that he's reviewing the stuff and going to improve as the season continues

on the other point, one would really believe that coaches would take note on the lock ons or for lack of field awareness

And on your third point I agree again

I have no complaints

come out of any game with the win I'll take it

If you want to get the ball out quickly and efficiently, you see who has a favorable situation pre-snap and go right to them.

This then gets magnified by some fans into a problem it isn't. Or it can be taken that way when it's not really an issue.

If you're completing passes and moving the ball it's not a problem. Far more qbs do it far more often than fans apparently like to believe.

It's just one, safe way of doing things.

The SKILL involved is seeing the favorable match-up in the pre-snap read.

Now it;s not the most dynamic way to run an offense but then it's a safe way to use a #2 caliber qb behind a relatively inexperienced OL. So the coaches are probably not chiding him, they are probably directing him to play that way.

It is also mixed in with setting up and taking longer shots, which the Rams do do and have done for years now. But then THAT part of what they do gets ignored or overlooked by a lot of Rams fans. It's there, it's core to what they do, it's central to how they set up an offensive attack, and yet some fans don't even realize that dimension of their offense even exists.

....

What is being disputed is that CK makes a determination pre snap on who his target is and forces it to them- short, med or long. Rather than scanning the field and hitting the open target, he makes the pre snap read and then figures he's going to make the play happen regardless of what occurs after the snap. What he thinks he's seeing pre snap isn't always correct, and he fails when it's not (which, IMO is also why he takes such horrible sacks). He's just not quick enough to see the field, adjust and execute.

Yeah. It's an approach that cuts back on or limits scanning the field as a rule, the advantage being moving the ball quickly and decreasing the chance of sacks or hits. But it does not follow that he constantly throws to the pre-snap guy he decides on REGARDLESS and that's not what I am seeing.

This exchange is about seeing somewhat different things out there.

Of course a qb who forces a first read regardless of the coverage would be dangerous, but we're not seeing someone who throws into heavy coverage at a high rate. The one tipped ball aside, he threw 2 INTs where it's on him. That's 2 out of 91 attempts, which is an INT percentage of 2.19%. Last year in 16 games that would rank 14th. This year in 3 games it would rank 15th. That's not over the top bad by any means. (Though he was better last year, when his INT percentage was 0.8%). (Another qualification...the real stats don't care whose fault it is so they count the tipped ball. cool smiley )

In terms of the horrible sacks he takes, they have a 6.2% sack percentage, which is also in the middle of the pack and better than Wilson, Luck, Palmer, Rodgers, and Newton. So yes he has a couple of memorable bad ones but it's not this relentlessly bad thing either.

This idea that he doesn't scan the field if his first read is not there? I haven't seen it. The numbers and my own eyeballs to not add up to him being this guy who never deviates from a first read and will force mistakes on a regular basis cause of that.

Though I also think he was a certain percent more efficient last year.

I don't know to what extent we're seeing it different...we seem to be a few shades different talking about the same color.
