You might not want to classify it as addictive, because your version is very narrow.

I think Waterfield really made the most salient point here.

Some people just can't step away from things as easy as others.

That was I was trying to tell Les, but I think we all got hung up on the definition of addiction.

For what it's worth, I think marijuana should be legalized. If used responsibly, I don't see an issue.

I DON'T agree that there is absolutely no drawbacks to using it.

Life is never that simple.

I am not sure what you disagree with.

You don't seem to be actually following the argument.

No one said there were NO drawbacks to anything.

The view painted in this discussion is not of anything simple. So not sure why you're saying nothing is simple.

The major point seems to be completely missed---whatever you want to call it, psychological addition, compulsive habits, etc---forms around ANYTHING because it's the person's psychology causing it not the substance or activity.

If that is the case, focusing on the (small percentage) that get compulsive habits around gambling or eating just reveals that like with marijuana the issue is the person.

THEREFORE acting like there's this special case of cannabis driven psychological addiction makes no sense---that is no different from say gambling addiction.

To then say "marijuana is psychologically addictive" is wrongheaded. And disingenuous.

What you OUGHT to say is that there is this small percentage of people who will get hooked on something, according to their psychology, and it might be gambling, it might be eating, it might be clinical vampirism, it might be marijuana.

No one is presenting any evidence that the psychology/brain wiring of one (gambling) is any different from the other (marijuana).

That is why I think it is completely disingenuous to say "marijuana is psychologically addictive." Saying that distorts the truth. The truth is there is a small percentage of people who are wired to form habits around something. For SOME it happens to be marijuana, for some it happens to be eating etc.

And I said nothing about NOT giving such people help. You're arguing with Les on that not me.

...

....

You just don't like the way I worded my claim, which is fine. But I think you missed my main point, which is what actually you're lending evidence to in your post.

I wasn't driving at a special case; I'm not really sure where you got that. I don't think you really understood what I was driving at.

The drawback thing was just a general view I have, I wasn't trying to ascribe a particular view to you. And, yes, read Billy's post "it's not a dangerous drug at all." That would constitute no drawbacks IMO, And I should've replied to him. Sorry about that.

If I said, "marijuana can be addictive", would you be OK with it?
