Here is the news - this has nothing to do with anything other than Josh Gordon wants back in the league but he failed to do what he needed to do to make that happen. I suspect the whole "rehab" thing is happening because Josh feels that will get him back in the league quicker than failing another drug test will (and he is probably right). Rehab is for quitters anyway.
Getting high is a choice, regardless of substance (one everyone should be free to make BTW, but you didn't think you were "free" did you?). Not getting high is also a choice. Most drugs do NOT cause physical addiction (coke, K, meth, and yes, weed). A few drugs do cause physical addiction (nicotine, opiates, benzos and alcohol). Opiate withdrawal, while unpleasant, is NOT life threatening. Benzo and alcohol withdrawal actually can be life threatening, and this is the ONLY time medical attention could be required (usually is for benzos, usually isn't for alcohol). Otherwise, everyone can just decide to quit. Even if a medical detox is required, when that is done, you are right back to a choice.
If "rehab" or "working the steps" helps folks stay true to their choice, god bless 'em. Most "addicts" quit on their own - see "National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions".
