I don't agree.
A player can be cut or straightened out.
The coaches don't make them who they are as people. They are who they are.
If a player wavers but then re-commits, that's certainly on the player for doing the right thing.
But yes you give the coach credit for recognizing he isn't going to be a real problem and encouraging him. If they're right about that they're right about that.
And btw that's just in the abstract. I assume Joyner is inherently fine and was never really a real issue. So I don't have much stake in the "it's Joyner we're talking about" part of it. Just in the abstract idea of what a coach gets credit for.
