I think people say that meaning they didn't even try or that they didn't try hard enough... I don't see how you conclude such comments mean 'they would have won' had they adjusted. - JamesJM
Because in the experience I am talking about, and it has been a few years of seeing it now, some people directly and openly say they did not adjust and that is stated as being the reason they lost.
Remember I post and read posts a lot of places, not just here.
Several times in the past I have actually gone online and said "well remember in the broadcast when the analyst" (and at the time I would name the guy) "pointed out their adjustments."
The line taken was always that they not only didn't adjust, they never do.
And yes it was given at different times directly as the reason they lost.
