Well, from your point of view it certainly is bad logic. But not from mine.
In the NFL you usually have a small window to win a SB or make it deep into PS play.
Apparently from what we have heard the RAms think they are close . Then we hear they are not a QB driven team at this time , needing only a game manager like CK.
As I said in another post the Rams always seem to built for the future, always being close but not there, always being the youngest team. But at some time to win the big prize you have to stop building for the future and play for the here and now.
You said Fisher obviously thinks more about CK than the writer, thinking he is good enough to win with him.
But if he thinks that way and wants to use the open window provided by the good defense and Gurley than he should have kept the picks and improve other needy positions to make a run NOW with CK .
Instead he once again is building for the future with Goff .
You say "staying competive until the rookie is ready".
Well, staying competetive is far away from being a contender and that is what the Rams and their fans finally want to be and see on the field.
Who knows if Goff ever will pan out ? But according to Fisher and the Rams the team NOW is close and apparently Goff will not help to take the next step. The picks would have helped now to fill holes at WR or S.
So basically for me it comes down to this: Fisher wanted an immediate upgrade at QB at the worst way and the move has backfired in his face big time already because for whatever reason Goff can not provide it immediately.
Or Fisher once again and still is building for the future hoping Goff will become an elite QB who can carry a team on his back for the next decade.
In the latter case IMHO he has made a bad decision because Goff is not in the same class as other elite QBs .
I simply do not see this guy as an elite QB like a Brady, Montana, Elway, Peyton .
To sum it up again: If Fisher and the Rams really think CK is good enough and the team is close their was no necessity to mortgage all those picks for a guy like Goff at this time IFthe goal is to win now.
You can not rebuilt forever or plan for the future in this league . They rightfully say it is the Not For Long league.
