I'm a bit concerned about where Goff is at this point in time in his development. I know that he's a rookie and all of that stuff. I understand that he still has a lot to learn and he just isn't ready to start yet. I'm in the camp that believes he shouldn't start until he is ready. But when you see 4th rounders and UDFAs performing better than him, it makes you wonder.
With that said I see the talent in that kid. Most of his throws have been on target. He's not afraid to throw the ball down the field. What has worked against him which is out of his control is his protection and all of the drops. He hasn't been protected all that well, and the number of drops that have been on target throws has been ridiculous. This is not to absolve Goff of anything but these are factors that matter. His numbers would be much better without all of the drops.
So I guess my point is that while I'm concerned by where he is right now (3rd string?), I believe that he is going to be a good one. He's just going to need more time than I thought he was going to need.
