So we dump a veteran QB that we paid 6 million out of 7 million due.
The original thought was that we would keep him on the roster throughout the pre-season given typical injuries with other teams at QB, not to mention our own.
So fast forward 3 weeks after Fisher cuts Foles and Romo and Bridgewater both go down. I think both teams would have had interest in Nick Foles.
What would it have hurt to keep him on the roster? What if Keenum went down with an ACL in preseason? Mannion played good in preseason, but we didn't know that heading into camp.
I know that he was not willing to come to camp knowing that we made Keenum the starter and drafted Goff. He could have sat at home and we could have advised him to stay in football shape and practice and wait for a call, either with us, or another team. Sure, he was only worth a 6th round pick before pre-season, but right now with the Vikings looking at Sanchez, I think there was a 3rd or 4th rounder or even a DB/Safety we could have picked up .
You could argue Snisher "did the right thing" to let him find a new home. But he was already paid for. Why cut him.
Had only they held onto them, they could have gotten something for them! Dang it!
